Career or Volunteer – being a firefighter is really the easy part of our profession.  Being a fire officer will really challenge your ability to multitask, lead, motivate and manage.  And it is certainly not for everyone.

You are not only responsible for the teams you lead on daily basis, but you now have the added responsibility of dealing with the other components of leadership;  training, politics, discipline, image, culture, moral, social issues, social media, etc.  Your effectiveness demands a higher level of awareness of how you represent yourself, both on and off the job.  This class will highlight some of these issues and identify how to avoid some of the pitfalls that can derail your career as an officer.

  • Going from Buddy to Boss
  • Your Job, Your Responsibilities
  • Understanding the Firehouse / Fire Department Culture
  • Understanding the Firehouse / Fire Department Politics
  • Create and Maintain Firehouse/Fire Department Image
  • Following, Updating, Creating Policies and Procedures
  • Social Media Management
  • Budgeting
