WATER RESCUE OPERATIONS-LEVEL TRAINING
Swiftwater Rescue Operations-level covers shore-based rescue operations. This program introduces students to in-water activities, including demonstrating swimming proficiency in a controlled water environment (swimming pool). In addition, the program covers planning for water emergencies, moving water dynamics, medical conditions, self-rescue/personal safety and fundamental rescue techniques.
In the classroom session, the program is broken down into five modules, which include and cover:
Module 1: Introduction to Water Rescue
Module 2: Water Emergencies and Weather
Module 3: Water Rescue Medical Considerations
Module 4: Personal Protection Equipment and Hydrology
Module 5: Shorelines Based Rescue Operations
The hands-on skills requires students to engage in strenuous in-water activities. It also requires all students to have their own (or department issued) personal protective equipment. Students are to be physically fit and capable of fulfilling all skills in order to successfully complete this program.
This program utilizes several resources for course content including the Jones & Bartlett – Water Rescue Principles and Practices, 3rd Edition; NFPA 1006 – Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications and NFPA 1670 – Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents
