Coaching The Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO)

IMG_3185

Coaching The Emergency Vehicle Operator (C.E.V.O.) training programs were first introduced in the early 1990s for ambulance, fire and police personnel.  This training quickly became accepted as standards for emergency vehicle operators.  Since then, over 500,000 emergency professionals have been trained with the C.E.V.O. programs.

All Hands Fire offers two C.E.V.O. training programs – FIRE and AMBULANCE.

As with the original program, operators will appreciate CEVO 3’s non-lecture, participant-intensive educational approach.  The core 6-hour course is divided into six sessions, which can be presented in one day.

CEVO-3 Ambulance:

This program has been designed for emergency medical professionals who operate response vehicles.  It promotes critical thinking during pressure situations.  The course features videos that show situations ambulance drivers face every day, followed by a group discussions.  Additional resources and techniques have helped this course receive approval by many state departments of health.

CEVO-3 Fire:

This course adapts National Safety Council proven defensive driving techniques to the unique nature of fire apparatus operators, training drivers in six- to eight-hours to navigate in traffic safely in emergency and non-emergency situations under severe time constraints and stress.  Class topics include handling blind spots, reaction time and cushion of safety, navigating through intersections, proper ways to pass and change lanes, backing and parking safely and operating on different road surfaces and in adverse weather conditions.

Optional – Hands-On / Road Course:

This hands-on course is designed to test the driver’s skills as they navigate through an 8 station course which simulates driving conditions faced on a daily basis while responding and returning from emergency incidents.  The course is based on Appendix “A” on NFPA1002 publication entitled “Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications”.
