COURSE OVERVIEW

Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) training equips firefighters with the essential skills to locate, access, package, and rescue a downed firefighter in high-risk, immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH) environments. This NFPA 1407-compliant program blends focused classroom instruction with high-intensity, hands-on rescue scenarios to build proficiency in firefighter survival, rapid intervention operations, situational awareness, communication, and decision-making under pressure. Participants train in coordinated team-based rescue techniques, victim removal methods, and real-world fireground applications to enhance operational readiness, improve response times, and strengthen overall firefighter safety and survival outcomes.

PROGRAM LEVELS

AWARENESS LEVEL

2-3 Hours

The Awareness-level program introduces firefighters to the fundamentals of firefighter rescue operations. Classroom instruction covers RIT concepts, firefighter survival considerations, rescue equipment, communication procedures including Mayday operations, and a review of incidents involving firefighter emergencies.

OPERATIONS LEVEL

24 Hours | Awareness-Level prerequisite required.

When the awareness-level program is complete, advance to the operations-level program with a  hands-on component that develops the core skills required for firefighters assigned to a Rapid Intervention Team. Participants practice locating, accessing, packaging, and removing a downed firefighter while operating within a coordinated team response.

SKILL MODULES

All individual skill modules can be delivered as stand-alone training sessions, giving departments the flexibility to tailor training to their specific operational needs, staffing levels, and scheduling constraints. Whether used to reinforce core competencies, address identified gaps, or provide focused skill development, each module can be scheduled independently and delivered on-site to align with your department’s availability and training objectives.
