COURSE OVERVIEW

This Water Rescue Training program follows the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission curriculum, progressing responders from Awareness to Operations and Technician levels, with additional advanced and boat-based rescue training. The program emphasizes hazard recognition, scene safety, and risk-based decision-making while developing proficiency in rescue techniques, equipment use, and advanced systems in alignment with NFPA 1670 standards.

PROGRAM OPTIONS


WATER RESCUE FOR THE FIRST RESPONDER
NFPA 1670 - AWARENESS

Introduces responders to the hazards, risks, and operational considerations of water incidents. Students learn scene assessment, safety protocols, resource activation, and the distinction between rescue and recovery operations in alignment with NFPA 1670 Awareness-Level standards.

WATER RESCUE & EMERGENCY RESPONSE (WRER) - OPERATIONS

Prepares responders to perform shore-based rescue techniques and support functions in water environments. Training covers moving water dynamics, medical considerations, personal safety, and fundamental rescue methods, supported by hands-on evolutions including controlled in-water training.

ADVANCED LINE SYSTEMS RESCUE (ALSR) - TECHNICIAN

Trains responders in complex rescue systems used in high-risk environments when lower-risk options are not viable. Students learn to select, build, operate, and dismantle advanced rope and line systems to safely conduct rescues and recoveries.

EMERGENCY BOAT OPERATIONS & RESCUE (EBOR)

Prepares responders to operate boats as rescue platforms in water rescue incidents. Training includes boat selection, outfitting, handling, moving-water tactics, and rescue techniques, meeting or exceeding NFPA 1670 Technician-Level guidelines. 

Prerequisites: Operations and Technician-Level training, along with a boating safety certification.
