COURSE OVERVIEW

Building Construction for the Fire Service is an instructor-led program that teaches firefighters and aspiring officers how building construction and fire behavior impact fireground operations, tactical decision-making, and structural stability. Based on the principles of Building Construction for the Fire Service, 4th Edition by Francis Brannigan, the course reviews the five construction types, structural components, loads, and collapse hazards, connecting this knowledge to real-world incident response. The 15-hour program is delivered in five modules and can be completed as a full course or as stand-alone sessions, supporting department training needs and meeting New Jersey Division of Fire Safety Fire Officer certification requirements.

SKILL MODULES

All individual skill modules can be delivered as stand-alone training sessions, giving departments the flexibility to tailor training to their specific operational needs, staffing levels, and scheduling constraints. Whether used to reinforce core competencies, address identified gaps, or provide focused skill development, each module can be scheduled independently and delivered on-site to align with your department’s availability and training objectives.
