COURSE OVERVIEW

This course provides firefighters with the knowledge, skills, and practical understanding needed to safely operate at elevator emergencies, including stalled elevator rescues and system control. Students will learn the history, types, and components of elevators, along with how to identify and utilize Fire Service Mode for fire department operations. The program emphasizes firefighter safety, proper size-up, and decision-making when responding to elevator incidents, including safe evacuation procedures and when to implement lock out/tag out. Through a combination of lecture, discussion, and team-focused hands-on exercises, participants gain the ability to recognize hazards, operate effectively, and perform safe, controlled rescues in a variety of elevator emergency scenarios.
