COURSE OVERVIEW

Swiftwater Rescue training is designed to build capability from shore-based rescue techniques to advanced in-water operations. The program emphasizes risk-based decision-making, moving water dynamics, medical considerations, and proper use of PPE and rescue systems. Students develop proficiency in low-risk rescue methods first, progressing to complex, high-risk in-water techniques only when necessary. Training combines classroom instruction with physically demanding, hands-on evolutions and aligns with industry standards including NFPA 1006 and NFPA 1670.

SWIFTWATER AWARENESS

Introduces responders to the hazards, risks, and operational considerations of water rescue incidents. The program focuses on scene recognition, risk assessment, and implementing safe, defensive actions while supporting trained rescue personnel.

SWIFTWATER OPERATIONS

Prepares responders to safely perform shore-based rescue techniques in moving water environments. Emphasizes risk-based decision-making, use of PPE, hydrology awareness, and low-risk rescue methods such as reach, throw, and support operations.

SWIFTWATER TECHNICIAN

Trains responders to operate within high-risk, moving water environments during complex rescue scenarios. The program focuses on advanced in-water rescue techniques, hazard management, and the use of specialized systems when lower-risk options are no longer viable.

SWIFTWATER REFRESHER

Reinforces core skills and operational knowledge required for safe and effective water rescue response. The program focuses on reviewing shore-based and in-water techniques, PPE use, and hazard recognition while rebuilding proficiency and confidence through hands-on evolutions.

SKILL MODULES

All individual skill modules can be delivered as stand-alone training sessions, giving departments the flexibility to tailor training to their specific operational needs, staffing levels, and scheduling constraints. Whether used to reinforce core competencies, address identified gaps, or provide focused skill development, each module can be scheduled independently and delivered on-site to align with your department’s availability and training objectives.
