COURSE OVERVIEW
This course prepares hazardous materials technicians to understand, predict, and manage the unique challenges associated with oxidizing materials. Through lecture and scenario-based discussions, students examine oxidizer behavior, chemical reactivity, fire dynamics, PPE selection, and tactical decision-making in a variety of emergency response environments. Emphasis is placed on interpreting changing conditions, anticipating escalation potential, and applying risk-based response strategies when dealing with oxidizers and organic peroxides. Participants leave with a stronger understanding of how oxidizers influence incident behavior and the operational considerations required to safely manage these complex hazards.
This course satisfies the following requirements: OSHA 1910.120(a); OSHA 1910.120(q); OSHA 1910.120(p); NFPA 400, 430, 432, 434, 470, 471, 472, 473, 704, 1072; ISO 17840-1:2022
