COURSE OVERVIEW
This course prepares hazardous materials technicians to gather, validate, interpret, and apply technical information during complex emergency incidents. Through hands-on, scenario-based training, students learn how to use modern research tools and digital resources, including WISER, CAMEO, ALOHA, weather platforms, databases, and AI-assisted technologies, to support risk-based operational decision-making. Emphasis is placed on evaluating conflicting information, identifying limitations in data sources, building reliable technical intelligence, and communicating actionable findings to incident command and response personnel. Participants leave with practical skills to support chemical, radiological, industrial, transportation, and unknown-hazard incidents where accurate technical analysis is critical to safe and effective operations.
This course satisfies the following requirements: OSHA 1910.120; NFPA 470
