COURSE OVERVIEW

The “Water Supply and Large Diameter Hose for Firefighting Operations” will provide the experienced firefighter, pump operator and fire officer with knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of using Large Diameter Hose for firefighting water supply operations. The topics and best practices covered in this 1½ to 2 hour presentation will include:

• Where does our firefighting water come from
• Municipal water storage and pumping operations
• Elevated water storage
• Fire main sizes and pipe carrying capacities
• Review of Static and Residual pressures in fire mains
• Understanding fire flow testing and test results
• Review of the International Fire Code (IFC) Fire Flow requirements for common building construction types
• Understanding Supported and unsupported operations using LDH supply hose
• NFPA LDH fire hose requirements and limitations
• Limitations of using LDH supply hose when laying from hydrant to fire
• Issues with supplying Sprinkler and standpipes with LDH
• Overview of using “Dual Pumping” with high volume fire hydrants and water mains
• Best practices for Relay Pumping with LDH
