COURSE OVERVIEW
Designed for hazardous materials technicians and emergency responders, this course develops the knowledge and decision-making skills needed to manage rail transportation incidents involving hazardous materials. Through lecture and scenario-based exercises, students examine tank car construction, container damage, product behavior, shipping documentation, and response resources such as AskRail and the Emergency Response Guidebook. Emphasis is placed on evaluating risk, interpreting incomplete information, assessing escalation potential, and selecting appropriate response strategies in both urban and remote environments. Participants leave with a stronger understanding of rail-specific hazards and the critical thinking skills required to make sound operational decisions during complex rail emergencies.
